Construction Project in Cape Town

We recently travelled to Cape Town on behalf of Fortress Income Fund to capture aerial and indoor footage of two of their iconic warehousing projects, one of which is under construction in the Montagu Business park, while the other is already completed and leased to Ciplamed. After a real run around at OR Tambo International, to get our DJI Inspire drone (a critical piece of our arsenal) on board, we arrived in the Mother City with enough time to ensure quality afternoon light and get the shoot under way. It’s not guaranteed that our trusty weather bureau will provide accurate predictions, but the weather was perfect and we covered as much as possible because rain was expected for the following day, which was not good news for flying.

The DJI Inspire drone performed faultlessly, allowing me to get creative in combining flowing, varying scenes of this prime land in Cape Town. I could not have asked for a more picturesque backdrop than Table Mountain and the calm seas to frame and compose some compelling shots of both properties, with plenty of green vegetation around thanks to the Western Cape’s winter rains. We were happy to complete our revised shooting schedule, exploiting the available sunshine and keeping an eye on the following day’s weather forecast. With that in mind, I had another little secret weapon in my baggage that would come into its own the next day to film the interior of the Ciplamed warehouse.

When we popped our heads out to check the weather early the next morning, sure enough it was pouring with rain, but as we arrived at Ciplamed, it stopped for 20 minutes as if we had planned it, giving me the opportunity to shoot the opposite side of the building, which had been in shadow the previous afternoon. Talk about perfect timing! I grabbed the DJI Osmo from my kit and shot some extra exterior footage that would definitely add value to the video. Moving inside to capture more perspectives, we discovered that the interior of the warehouse was impressive, being fully insulated and beautifully planned and laid out, as one would expect from a renowned global brand such as Cipla.

Their management team made us feel very welcome and even assisted us to use one of their cherry pickers to get some high level panoramas of their massive facility. And then it was a wrap. Mission accomplished. We had just enough time to get to the airport, board our boeing and head back to the Big Smoke of Johannesburg. Our final, edited versions of the videos and photos exceeded our clients’ expectations, which always leaves us feeling proud and grateful. Sincere thanks to the Fortress team for the opportunity to showcase their phenomenal work.
