Memorable Market Open

Grammy Award Winner Wouter Kellerman

Music can truly stir the soul, sometimes at unexpected times and places. We were treated to this recently when we filmed a memorable opening of the market at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. The guest of honour was acclaimed SA flautist and music composer, Wouter Kellerman, fresh from winning a Grammy Award for Best New Age Album for Winds of Samsara, which he created in collaboration with Indian composer and producer, Ricky Kej. The album, dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela, also reached #1 on the US Billboard New Age Albums Chart.

It was a privilege to experience the JSE’s world-class professionalism and hospitality, combined with Wouter’s exceptional talent, and to learn about what it takes for a South African artist to achieve success on the international stage. Having played the flute every day since he first picked one up at ten years old, this master musician captivated us all with a breathtaking live performance, right after opening the market in the traditional African manner by blowing the kudu horn. Take a look at our video to see for yourself:

Before becoming financially empowered to live his dream of playing music full-time, Wouter was a successful engineer with a sound understanding of the business world and the key role that this plays in financing the arts. He shared the importance of applying passionate energy and significant funds to creating an exquisite product, but also to marketing it, because without this essential element, the product can’t reach its rightful audience.

This brings to mind the famous quote by Henry Ford: “A man who stops advertising to save money is like a man who stops a clock to save time”. Both Wouter and the JSE exemplify this insight. We are grateful for the opportunity to not only witness this first hand, but also participate in their success by shooting footage and photographs that contribute to sharing their message and promoting their brand. If you’re considering harnessing the power of these mediums, please contact us for a complementary discussion on how we can help.
